When someone in Vancouver, Surrey or Abbotsford searches "plumber near me" or "best sushi downtown," Google shows three local businesses on a map before anything else. That map pack is the most valuable real estate in local search — and winning it is a repeatable process, not luck.

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

This is the single highest-impact hour you can spend on marketing. Claim your profile at business.google.com, choose the most specific category available, set your service areas, add real photos, and keep hours accurate. Businesses with complete profiles get dramatically more calls and direction requests than sparse ones.

2. Collect reviews consistently

Reviews are a top local ranking factor — and the thing customers read before choosing. Build the habit: after every good interaction, send a direct link to your review form. A steady trickle beats a one-time burst, and replies to reviews (all of them) signal an active business.

3. Keep your NAP identical everywhere

Your Name, Address and Phone number must match exactly across your website, Google, Yelp, YellowPages.ca and every directory. Inconsistencies erode Google's confidence in your data. Pick one format and never improvise.

4. Give each location and service its own page

Google ranks pages, not businesses. If you serve Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford, a dedicated page for each city — with genuinely local content, not copy-pasted paragraphs — lets you compete in each market separately. 5. Get the technical basics right

6. Earn a few local links

Chambers of commerce, local sponsorships, supplier partners and community organisations — a handful of genuinely local links outweighs dozens of random directory submissions.
